A variety of services and programs to orient newcomers to their new community (taxes, forms, other settlement issues). FREE with SCCC membership!
These sessions assist newcomers and those whose first language may not be English with practice in day-to-day conversations with other newcomers and volunteers. Topics discussed include culture, food, ecology, and other interesting themes.
Services include assistance with housing, Child Tax Benefit, OHIP, SIN, Income Tax Preparation, OHIP, Permanent Resident card renewal, Canadian citizenship and more. Settlement workers provide service in Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic, Burmese, Japanese and English.
Settlement services provided in Arabic include: assistance with housing, Child Tax Benefit, OHIP, SIN, Income Tax Preparation, OHIP, Permanent Resident application and card renewal, Canadian citizenship and more.
Offered between February and April annually, free income tax clinics are provided to low-income newcomers. Appointments are required.
Provided in partnership with Sanderson Library and Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre, services offered include: settlement workers on- site at the Library providing information, referral, interpretation etc., and The Great Start Together Perinatal Program at the Health Centre.
