At the same time we work to create a community that is welcoming, responsive to and benefits from:

• Offering settlement services and supports
• Programs that support newcomer integration, for example our Newcomer Youth Program and School Readiness Program
• Special projects designed with newcomers in mind, such as community economic development through the Market 707 and health screening clinics
• An elementary school awards program to recognize children who have helped newcomers adapt to being in school in Canada
• Hiring staff from newcomer communities
• Working with other agencies to better serve newcomers in through active participation in the West Downtown Local Immigration Partnership
• Being active on issues and systems that affect newcomers, for example through the Toronto Newcomer Initiative project and the Community Education and Access to Police Complaints project
