SCCC believes that applying an anti-oppression, anti-racist lens to everything we do is critical to the organization’s function as a community hub and vibrant, healthy and inclusive space.
To this end, action around these issues takes many forms:
Through ongoing course correction to our practice of service and program delivery by introducing new initiatives addressing emerging issues ;
Through policy advocacy and political action around issues that impact the health of our neighbourhood, from law enforcement systems to city-building efforts;
Through eliminating barriers to education with Scholarship Programs and skills development/educational services;
Through eliminating barriers to economic prosperity by providing employment, access to affordable retail space for low-income newcomer entrepreneurs and technical skills upgrading;
Through issue-based campaigns and community education addressing violence and racism in the form of workshops, arts-projects, participation in multi-stakeholder coalitions and partnerships;
By reviewing and strengthening organizational policies, procedures and practices.
